Evil British cops caught

A policeman who inflicted violence that was “little short of torture” on a 19-year-old woman in his custody was jailed yesterday for 18 months at Manchester Crown Court.

PC Jason Hanvey, 37, [above] pressed Amy Keigher’s face on the custody suite desk and screamed at her: “Move and I’ll rip your f****** skull off.” He grabbed a chunk of her hair as he pulled handcuffs up over her head before demanding she say “pretty please” to be released.

Sergeant Andrew Kennedy, 51, who showed “complete indifference” to Miss Keigher’s plight, was also jailed for 18 months.

Hanvey has a previous conviction for assaulting a prisoner but was allowed to stay in the force after a disciplinary hearing.

The judge told Kennedy, of Atherton, Greater Manchester, that his culpability was equally high because he did not act to stop Hanvey and appeared to approve of what he was doing.

The incident came to light after Miss Keigher made a formal complaint about her treatment. The force passed the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission which sent a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Hanvey resigned from the force after conviction for misconduct in a public office after a three week trial last month. Kennedy was allowed to take early retirement.

Judge Gee said that custodial sentences were justified in this case as a deterrent to others.
